During my time in Europe, this blog had hundreds of hits a day. Now it has dropped dramatically. There have been times when I wondered when the demise of my blog would be, but at the end of the day, I like to believe that the existence of the avid readers of STZMCHN still linger across the continents of the world.

It has been a tough decision to make, but STZMCHN is departing from the blogger platform for personal reasons. Moving, not closing (I know some of you wishing STZMCHN would end so that no more photos of Figueroa Deep V's would ever be posted again...sorry folks!) I thought about moving all previous posts to our new home via our friends @ monospectra, but a part of me feels the need to move on and start fresh.

For memories sake, www.steezemachine.blogspot.com will hopefully be here for a while.

This is the end of an era, but a beginning of what is the new steezemachine
Most of you won't even realize there is a difference, as this "move" is essentially pertaining to my host/blogging platform.

Husband-wife band Mates of State recently released their cover album "Crushes", which ranges with artists from Death Cab to Mars Volta. I think the reason why I've always enjoyed this band is merely due to the fact that they are simply a legit indie couple that proves to have great chemistry in terms of song writing, harmonization, and even physical appearance.

Living 2 blocks from Staples center, I received the following message today:

"We have posted announcements re: street closures. See the “Files”
section for “Lakers Game 7 Street Closures” for details.

In summary: street closures for our neighborhood today will increase
progressively by quarter:

1st Quarter of Game: Chick Hearn Court (Albany to Fig)
Halftime: All of Cherry Street; (Fig to Olympic)
4th Quarter of Game: Pico Blvd (Albany to Flower)

Tip: To avoid congestion, get home early (i.e. ideally 4:00pm).

Last year, some neighborhood trash cans (that were not bolted down)

I love the Pasadena flea market that occurs every second Sunday of the month. From hipsters to collectors of all ages, the rose bowl comes to life with goods from A-Z. Today I saw Jeremy Scott roaming for some legit goods as well.

Some goods I picked up today:

1. Indian Bolo Tie (Estate sale table, vintage piece with an eagle dude in a crazy legit position with some Turquoise embedded son!)

The footwear industry is blind but can be kind, with endless potential for growth and wealth. A game where hindsight can be your best and worst enemy.

Anyway, here are a couple brands that are of interest @ STZMCHN these days. Not necessarily styles I would personally buy, but the material composition/construction/silhouette is of the liking.

We start off with Dior Homme. Rear lacing is a simple concept, but is applied nicely avec staggering cross lacing.

Giuliano Fujiwara's shoe is nothing new, but the combination of the strap with the boldly dissected triangular pieces seem to come together nicely.

Thorocraft is a brand I've been keepin' my eye on. Great leather bottom boots/chukkas/etc with semi-reasonable prices.

My personal favorite from Thorocraft. Outstanding lace choice/ stitching width!

Last night a couple of us headed over to the Echo in Echo Park to see Toro Y Moi.

Decent live game, except I felt like he was trying to hard on his electric guitar. Seemed like he was playing some new material that wasn't really my thing. His ender song was Blessa--except electric guitar style, no percussion/backing mix although it def. was available through his laptop.

At the end of the day, however, his album Causers of This is still a STZMCHN favorite.

Our Vulcanized shoes are made in Shuzhou, China. This area of China is probably the cleanest I have ever seen (in China that is) as the streets were spotless. Germans and Koreans inhabit the area due to the presence of corporate Samsung.

Our vulcanized factory also does European and DC shoes...below are some "kyoote" wellies for the kids.

Our last full day in Asia was spent with the factory guys, who took us on a little walk by the lake in Shuzhou..

This area was chill, some imitation items/food was sold as crowds swamped through every inch, making it a pickpocket heaven.

Eventually, we separated with the factory guys around 3 PM. This is when I decided to visit my cousin who currently works as an architect in Shanghai, which was about 2 hours away.

The trek to Shanghai was quite an event, as CHING MING festival was around the corner. This meant that EVERYONE (or so it felt this way) was traveling to see their ancestors that once walked the soil. I hadn't anticipated this psycho travel bonanza, only to realize when the lady at the ticket window informed me that all bullet train tickets to Shanghai had sold out until 9:10 PM. With only that night to visit my cousin, I knew I had to get to Shanghai ASAP.

My contemplation of how/what/when/ my body would arrive in Shanghai

After a couple arguments and hustling (or the feeling as if I was), I was on a ghetto bus filled with people and luggage heading to Shanghai. I was informed that this bumpy bus ride was going to take 2 hours+. Unfortunately, the bus was leaking oil which caused the air to reak...and that wasn't the best part. My stomach had finally lost the battle of traveling/new countries..so you can only imagine how this bus ride was..

Note: there were mad people/luggage behind me..I felt like I was immigrating.

Finally, Shanghai train station...

Had a pleasant dinner with my cousin + aunt who happened to be in town...next day met up with my boss and flew back to the USA...

Last night, I headed over to Culver City to meet up with Jose. It seems that every time I head over there I am graced with his culinary legitness, as last night's meal was nothing below his usual savoring standards. Crab-cakes, house sauce marinated chicken thighs, and sautéed vegetables in Lee Kum Kee's Black Bean Garlic Sauce was served with some fine refreshments.

Grillin!! Marinated, baked, then grilled to perfection...mmmmm.

Had a little jam sesh after dinner. Always a good time.

One of the problems these days with footwear production (as least for our company) is outsole production. Many factories actually specialize in uniquely the production of outsoles. Below is an example of a factory we visited which actually provided the outsoles for our Vietnamese factory. What was interesting about this factory below was that they were run by the Chinese (the gradual pattern of the booming footwear industry). It just happened so that no one spoke English at the factory so I had to put my tongue to work and speak some business level Chinese (or attempt to) and translate during the meetings. Talk about knees weak arms heavy mom's spaghetti son!

Eventually we flew to Dongguan, China to meet with some potential business partners. My hotel room there was the best yet, although I didn't have much time to enjoy it.

A new factory we are working with. Can't say much on here except that this factory was the most legit yet with cutting edge CAD engineers and technology flowing through every room.

This factory also produced for BCBG, Prada, and other European brands.

Grabbed some pizza at "PIZZA NEXT DOOR" on Flower and 8th before we hit up the Metro Station at Pershing Square.

The final step before they box up the shoes...a conveyor belt moves the units for the workers to clean them with a chemical solution known to digress the man's words while sticking it to the man

These here are called Lasts. They are essentially solid pieces of foot-shaped legitness which are placed inside the finished upper. The purpose of these legitass lasts is for the ultimate goal of ultra-legit formation of the shoe. Machines of all sorts that press, heat, cool, etc are used to help form the desired shape of shoe.

This is an example of a machine that presses the upper.

Due to the illegit conditions that I had forecasted for my business trip, I only brought a point and shoot camera which ultimately was a good idea since 90% of the trip was business-related. However, I was able to snap a couple "out of the window " shots. Most are pretty blurry but if you are in any way interested in footwear production then you might find some of these photos decent.

Creative Rec. is sending me to do some legitass work overseas. I am leaving for Asia this Saturday with the Director of Operations for a 9 day journey.

I am looking forward to this trip as I'm sure it will be an eye-opening experience for me, especially seeing the factories in Vietnam and China. I have never been to Vietnam before so that should be interesting as well.

My schedule will be as follows:

3/20 Fly into Inchon, Korea

3/21-3/24 / Hanoi, Vietnam

3/24-3/26 / Dongguan, China

3/26-3/28 / Shanghai

Yes, I am spending my birthday in Shanghai. Apparently all seats are booked for the weekend so I'm "stuck" there.

I rode the bicycle to the local "Cool Japanese Guy-Owned" boutique on Spring and 5th today. That dude has some pretty rad stuff. This particular bag struck me with delight. A recycled US postal mail carrier bag that was revamped by some Japanese label. The metal folding clip latch is clutch. I didn't take a picture of it but they also added a strap to be worn like a messenger bag. I just have to figure out a way to make the strap shorter..

Growing up about a mile away, the area has definitely changed dramatically over the years. It seems like BRO-frication evolved over the years at its local bars. Otherwise, this place is nicely pleasant during the day...

Today I headed over to ~~BTNC~~ to check out some goods, although I don't ever buy that type of stuff anymore. They revamped the shop about 2 years ago to a wooden scheme. I def. like the old shop better though..

The main reason for my visit to DTF was to sell a bunch of my old gear to Buffalo Exchange. The wait to sell was about 10 minutes, and to top it off the dude next to me started humming 5 minutes in. Eventually, it turned into decently loud straight-up singing of Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" (Don't ask me why I know that song, I have no idea to to be honest). This dude would laugh at other people's conversations at the cash register...which actually lead to a girl asking him how some boots looked on her...(Reminded me of some tactic used by some pick up artist or something)..

Anyway, the wait totally paid off as they loved my goods and I ended up coming out with a new crisp Benjamin in my pocket.

Last night, as I was heading out to ride my bicycle, I saw 3 people and 8 cop cars on my street. Ssomeone had leapt from the 9th floor of the apartment building across the street. It was pretty crazy because I was probably the 7th civilian on site, although someone had covered the body already with the white sheet (a bystander told me the victim's back was split open)

Turns out that the person was Marie Osmond's 18 year old son. Article here

I need something art-wise above my bed. I can't stand the thought of going to an "art" store or IKEA to buy a mass-produced canvas/ photo-printed-on-canvas piece, so I am trying to paint something random. I wanted to use perfect circles of various sizes, which led me on a hunt to find daily household items which were large and round.

Mondays + 1 day. Random tunes that have been seeping through the holes of two plastic objects at STZMCHN HQ.

First off we have The Morning Benders. My girlfriend introduced these guys to me, and from what I have heard so far, they remind me of Grizzly Bear and another band I can't pinpoint.

I have been listening to the Two Door Cinema Club Album "Tourist History" a couple days straight. Great guitar-licks with some tracks featuring mad high-hat suckin' drummin will guarantee some dances moves. Hailing form Ireland, the trio is signed on the legitass French label Kitsune. They don't have a drummer live, which I believe is absolutely necessary and would UP their live game by tenfold.

Lali Puna has been around for a while, and their new album "Our Inventions" does not fall short of their older material. Their music has always been great to "chill" to, or "reflect" on. Whenever I hear Lali Puna, image sequences flow through my mind in HD.. aka potential video projects.

My coworker Vance grew up in Virginia Beach. He was explaining how the scene is so tight knit there that you end up knowing everyone. Turns out he has been homies with Clipse since elementary school so he was able to hook a bunch of us up with tickets /vip @ the Roxy. He also mentioned how he lost his woman in high school to Chad from the Neptunes.

This morning I took the shred sled to the streets of DTLA. My final destination was Broadway, where all the old theaters are now sadly in shambles and home to vendors who sell extremely cheap goods. Broadway is now the prime shopping district for the "working class-latino" - WIKIPEDIA (not me classifying) I definitely felt a little out of place but loved the bargains that I found. Picked up some threads and a couple head threads for 20 bucks, no joke. Hustle central as haggling is the name of the game.

St. Vincent's Square is this tiny opening on 7th Street that feels like a European square. Definitely a gem in the rough in terms of being situated in the heart of Downtown. In this square are multiple Mediterranean restaurants and random vendors.

G Moonz just picked up the Kodak zi 8. It's pretty much the first handheld portable HD digital camcorder in the FLIP cam category to offer Electronic Image Stabilization.

I now live a couple steps away from this legendary skate bank at the LA Figueroa Carwash. I still remember Daewon Song's footage in Almost Round 3. It's unfortunate that I am not even 1/3 as good at skating as years ago. Otherwise, this would be quite the shot.

The bmxer pictured was doing some 180s, broke the pedistrian's neck.

This Sunday Banksy will be premiering his film "Exit through the Gift Shop" at Sundance. What's ironic about this film is that it originally was a man who was trying to make a film about Banksy but ultimately resulted in Bansky making a film about that man instead. Yeah, sounds a bit weird huh?

The trailer shows Banksy and Shepard Fairey from Obey bombing buildings with their art, with recognizable shots of Silverlake, Melrose, and other Los Angeles hot spots.

Banksy's presence is already felt in the Sundance Park City territory , as his art is popping up left and right by the day. I feel that the revealing of Banky's identity a while ago was both disappointing and uplifting. Disappointment in regards to an iconic mystery revealed by means of mass media, and uplifting in the way that Banksy is merely an older looking normal white guy.

First off I just wanted to let people know that STZMCHN is praying for the people of Haiti. I know this blog comes off at materialistic and whatnot, but that merely is due to the goal of a solid focus and a hopeful attempt to narrow the spectrum of blogged subjects.

Lots of media offices around the world have been stepping their game up, whether it be Facebook or Google, the Vodaphone office in Porto, Portugal rules them all in my book.

It would be beyond awesome to work at an office like this one. The architectural group Barbosa e Guimaraes Arquitectos is responsible for this angular masterpiece.

slightly reminds me of the current STZMCHN HQ in Downtown Los Angeles, but definitely not even half as legit in terms of color scheming, minimalistic features, etc.

There are endless amounts of legit styles and colorways that are always dropped. This goes for all products across the board. I find it unfortunate but logical due to the economy.
